Learning About a Healthy Lifestyle > The Fruit of the Spirit - Self-Control

Recall a circumstance when you have felt out of control. What makes a person feel this way?

“The more you attempt to control, the more out of control you become.” In what situations do you act the most controlling?

Read Genesis 3: 1-7. (Focus on v.5).

“You will be like God.” This was Satan’s original temptation and it caused Adam to become self-absorbed, craving control. What are some traits of a self-absorbed person?

Read II Timothy 3:1-5. (Focus on v.3)

All the qualities here begin with “lovers of themselves.”(v.2) What is it about this trait that sets up a life to go out of control?

Read Galatians 2:20.

The beginning point for self-control is death to self and completely giving your controls to Christ. What is meant by: “It is no longer I who live”?

Read John 8:31-32.

Abiding in Christ and knowing His truth makes us free. Freedom is defined as the privilege of choices. By claiming our freedom in Christ, how can this result in self-control?

This week, in what ways could you freely choose to let Christ be in control of your life?

What control wish will you need to relinquish in order to let this happen?
